2025

Byker’s Club/House is a hybrid community project located on the former Tyne Bank Brewery site in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne. Responding to local socio-economic challenges, such as social isolation, lack of inclusive nightlife, and poor access to healthy public spaces, the design transforms the site into a flexible, low-carbon social infrastructure.

By day, it operates as a community ‘House’ with reading areas, lunch clubs, markets, and an urban garden. By night, it becomes the ‘Club’, a live music venue that supports cultural activity and generates income. The project reuses parts of the existing structure, promoting environmental responsibility. Ultimately, Byker’s Club/House supports intergenerational engagement and cultural inclusion, offering a healthier, more connected future for the Byker community.
